Newbie in NC

Hello!
Glad to be here. Looking for a new hobby (ok; so I've never really had any hobbies before) and investigating this. I've been reading like crazy today and plan on reading a lot more to try to understand it enough to make a decision.
Also looking for anyone in the Chapel Hill / Durham, NC area that would allow me to observe and ask questions or mentor me if I decide to make this my hobby.
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any questions I ask that are answered somewhere I didn't find them.
