Hey all. Just finished my first 2 pens under the careful eye of Bruce Fifer (fiferb). The first pen I did with his assistance was the Texas Flag pen from Kalenshaan Woods. It is a Junior Gent rollerball with platinum hardware. The wood is curly maple. The second pen is a white/black acrylester on a slim line kit with black titanium hardware. Bruce had me do most of the work on the second pen until we got down to the very delicate stuff that I'm still a little too ham fisted to do. I'll try for better pictures this weekend when the lighting is better. I see a lathe and accessories in my future!

I saw this pen today (the flag) I was amazed, I would love it if my first pen was 1/2 that cool. Nice meeting you and your better half Brian!

I have to ask, why are you making a Texas flag pen when you are in the great state of SC? I'm from SC and now living in Texas! I would like to make a SC pen and I'm guessing you are making a Texas pen for the same reason. Could I be right?

Looking good for some of your first pens. Bruce will be a great mentor.

Welcome! The pens are beautiful. My first (20) weren't half that nice. But I didn't have the great teacher you have there.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
