New Year's weekend pens

I only got to turn four pens this weekend, but I've been wanting to do the Buckeye burl ever since I got the blanks several months ago. I *love* how it turned out! I uploaded lots of photos to my album with details of the woods, etc. Just playing with my new lightbox.

I'm not as thrilled with the Masur Birch as with the Buckeye. The grain in the Birch wasn't that pretty when it turned down, IMHO.

Very nice pens. You have really got the lighting down pat for your pictures. I have made progress with mine, but a glossy finish doesn't show at all. I think I may need another light aimed from the front.

I like them. I've never seen any masur birch that looked like that. Is it stabilized, dyed, ...?

Thank you! I got the Masur Birch at CSUSA, and it is stabilized, but not dyed. It looked *nothing* like that in the beginning stages of turning; it was much lighter with a lot more definition in the figuring, which was less prominent. I was almost shocked at what was revealed when it got down to size.
