I am a new pen turner (about 50 pens) and have just found a new tool that has really helped me to turn blanks without gouging or shattering them. It is called a versa chisel and can be found on page 70 of Penn State Industries on line catalog. The 1/2 inch is probably best for pen turning. Before using this tool I would ruin as many as I would complete.
Just thought this might help other newbies.
Now that I can actually get the blanks turned maybe now I'm ready to tackle that CA BLO finish that I've been reading about.
