Dear All,

I recently purchased an awesome used Jet 14" bandsaw with the riser block and Carter Bandsaw Guides. They guy before me didn't know what he was doing in setting it up and I am having to do some minor repair.

Here's my problem . . . The down rod on the extension that adjusts the height of the upper bandsaw guide (relative to the height of the table) is a little out of alignment. The down rod is slightly twisted such that the guides don't hit the blade flush. Every time I adjust the guides and then tighten them back down, they just twist back and aren't flush anymore (the blade only hits one edge of each guide. This wouldn't be that much of a problem, but it is causing the blade to ride off of the thrust bearing when I have to really push something through.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,
Kyle

did the set screw but a divot in the rod? that is the immediate thought I had when I read your post. this woudl cause the set screw to actually settle into the divot and twist the rod. fix of course is getting rid of the divot.
A second thought is that the entire bearing carriage is twisted on the rod. this means the rod is actually aligning as it should but becasue the whole mess of bearing are not right they are skewed off line.

The latter is the problem. The whole mess is out of alignment. The guide system is good, it is just the downrod that is the problem.

I would contact Carter and explain the problem to them.. They are very helpful in setting up their products. I just got some guides and they helped me over the phone with a setting up problem. Check out their web site for information that might be helpful in fixing the problem.
