I know nothing about the sharpening system but the Rockler drilling vise/pen press is very unimpressive . I've had mine for over 2 years now and never use it for either task . As a drilling vise , if you have a tabletop drill press you loose over 4" of usable space between the chuck and table , so much that I had to make a new table for it to sit on since it sat so high that I couldn't put a bit in the chuck because it hit the blank even with the table all the way down and longer bits wouldn't fit at all . It would be no problem with a floor standing drill press but not a tabletop one . It also has allot of play and don't really center well . As a pen press it is equally bad . The jaws are metal and damage the finish of the kit parts . You have to make inserts for the two recesses in the jaws but they have to be very thin or they interfere with the notches for the drilling part of the unit . Also the knob don't give enough leverage to press the pen parts together . There are 2 nylon bushings that hold the jaw screw in place and they fit into 2 metal keepers . The plastic ones that came with it broke pretty quick and the replacement nylon ones that I was sent also broke fairly quickly , I made some out of UHMW and they held up better but for the price you shouldn't have to make replacement parts to be able to use it . Overall I would say that it is an expensive piece of junk and I wish I had added $10 more to what I spent for it ($79.99) and bought my PSI collet chuck instead . I now drill exclusively on the lathe and press my kits together with an Irwin hand clamp or my lathe .

I agree on the Rockler vise. I think it's handy if you're drilling with a drill press, but shortly after I bought the Rockler vise I went to drilling exclusively on the late.

If you want my Rockler vise I'd be willing to sell/ trade for less than the cost of it new.

Thanks for review on Rockler vise & pen press. Should have read all 20 reviews at Rockler.

After doing some checking Nova Sharpening Centre getting mixed reviews. Seems Nova sharpening centre works fine with a six inch bench grinder, need additional instruction for use with eight inch bench grinder. People either love it or hate it. One guy sent his back for a refund another said NSC flimsy and not well thought out. Still other people like it. Have not seen this item for sales anyplace other than Teknatool.

Still recommend Wolverine System.

Are you saying new as in you bought them? I had the nova sharpening center. Gave it away. I'm one of those that hated it. Doesn't mean you won't like it, but, well, I hope you have better luck with it.

I have and been using Wolverine sharpening system for many years. Wolverine with optional stuff cost more than my first wood lathe.

Was surfing woodturning on line and saw "New & Hot section so took a look. Since subjects of sharpening, pen drilling & pen assembly comes up a lot though would link those items. I have not seen these items in any turning catalogs or listed here before.

Should have done a Google search first on sharpening jig and read all 20 reviews at Rockler first.

I have the Nova Sharpening system and will be replacing it with the Wolverine. The Nova is IMHO poorly made and a pita to use. YMMV. A big disappointment as I have a Nova lathe and chuck and am happy with both.
