I know nothing about the sharpening system but the Rockler drilling vise/pen press is very unimpressive . I've had mine for over 2 years now and never use it for either task . As a drilling vise , if you have a tabletop drill press you loose over 4" of usable space between the chuck and table , so much that I had to make a new table for it to sit on since it sat so high that I couldn't put a bit in the chuck because it hit the blank even with the table all the way down and longer bits wouldn't fit at all . It would be no problem with a floor standing drill press but not a tabletop one . It also has allot of play and don't really center well . As a pen press it is equally bad . The jaws are metal and damage the finish of the kit parts . You have to make inserts for the two recesses in the jaws but they have to be very thin or they interfere with the notches for the drilling part of the unit . Also the knob don't give enough leverage to press the pen parts together . There are 2 nylon bushings that hold the jaw screw in place and they fit into 2 metal keepers . The plastic ones that came with it broke pretty quick and the replacement nylon ones that I was sent also broke fairly quickly , I made some out of UHMW and they held up better but for the price you shouldn't have to make replacement parts to be able to use it . Overall I would say that it is an expensive piece of junk and I wish I had added $10 more to what I spent for it ($79.99) and bought my PSI collet chuck instead . I now drill exclusively on the lathe and press my kits together with an Irwin hand clamp or my lathe .
