Hello Everyone,
My name is Bryon and I am new to this site. I hope to be very active and learn from you all. I have been into woodworking for some years now but just recently discovered the enjoyment in turning pens. I would like to be doing this full time but we have to start out somewhere right? My hopes are to build up enough business so I am able to concentrate more on pens, and less on what I'm doing now. I currently travel about 130,000 mile a year, and have grown rather tired of it after doing it for the past 6 years. While it has taken me to great places like Australia and New Zealand (where I was able to get some great blanks), it has also kept me away from my family. I started a web site back in December, and will start setting up at local crafts shows. I've done well with things so far, but there is always room for improvement. I've included some of my work so far. The first two images are of a Jr. Gent made from Rimu, with a Ebony\Maple Celtic Knot. The third and fourth are of a Jr. Gent made from Camphor burl. The fifth image is a Majestic made with White Trustone. I would like to have some custom pen parts cast. If any of you know places that will make them for you I would like to hear from you.

Nice to have you Bryon. For someone new to the art you have done a very nice job. I really like the look of the Black Ti and isn't camphor burl fun :wink:.

Glad you found us and like the rest of us here I'm sure you will find some useful tips to help your learning process. Learning is just part of the fun (and it helps keep you alive)!

Welcome aboard Byron! There is a ton of information in the library, you should definitely go check it out! And by the way, your finish looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing

Welcome Bryon. I did not travel as much as you by any means but 25,000 miles a year flying overseas (primarily US-Japan) was enough. That got tiring too.

Enjoy this hobby and this forum. Glad to have you here.

Welcome Byron, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Your pens look very good. The fit and finish is outstanding.
