This blank is to test a new technique--not a test of my art abilities.

It is a paduak blank inlayed with a snake made of canary wood.

What do you think? Should I add a couple of tiny "eyes" made of malachite?

I'd suggest you make sure that teacher is no longer practicing! [xx(]

Ok, outside of the little swimmers comments. What is the black around the canary wood inlay? Is there another type of wood that borders the inlay?

How deep does the inlay go? I assume you've already through through how this would apply to a drilled/turned barrel -- would that make it significantly harder?

Dang! I wanted to find out if this is something that I want to work further on---and all I get are bodily fluid references!

To answer the last question--it goes 1/4 inch deep (I can make it any depth) and I think it would survive being drilled and turned. The dark around the snake is walnut.
