New Series SpectraPly Autumn

This is a New Series ballpoint in gold. The blank is a SpectraPly called Autumn. This particular blank was stabilized by Terry Q, and worked much better than the first SpectraPly blank I turned. The darker sanding dust didn't get stuck in the lighter layers, like the SpectraPly Blue Angel blank I turned. Thanks Terry!

Since the blank is stabilized, I decided to try just polishing it instead of putting a finish on it. That didn't work out. I think it picked up dirt from my MicroMesh pads, which I used dry. So I resanded it, and applied a CA finish using my handy dandy homemade Delrin bushings. It's far from the greatest CA finish, but it's my best so far. I polished it with Novus 3 and 2, and PlastX. I'm happy with it!

Thanks to John (fortress from the UK forum) for the suggestion of putting my finger in a plastic bag to apply the CA. I didn't get paper towel stuck to me this time!

Your welcome Jim. My first spectra ply blank delaminated. I now stabilize every one.

I like those colors, much more subdued than the blue angel or confetti. I also like the New style pen, and think it's a great match. Nice work.

Using a little plastic bag is a cool idea for applying CA glue...will save me the cost and trouble of putting on a vinyl glove and will also give me a use for all those little pen kit plastic bags. Thanks for shairing that Jim!

A Further Tip Jim, is to put your Finger and Parts Zip Lock Bag, Under the Blank, with the CA coated paper towel, between your Finger/Bag and the Blank, that way you can see the Wet Path where the CA has been applied.
