I thought I would post some of my newest segmented pen designs. Have been trying to get a 3D design . The 2nd and third one from the left are my first try.

I love each for a variety of reasons. Your spacing is excellent to keep the top to bottom dimensions even. For the 3D, the third from the left is my favorite. Darn nice work Joe!

Can you tell us how you cut and assembled the bits that look like cubes in the blanks 2nd and 3rd from the left?
I'm inspired to try something like this, but as of yet lack the chops to make the cuts as precisely as you've managed. Practice, I guess?

Would be happy to try to explain it to you and others. I first cut pieces of the different colored woods 1/2 " thick , 1 " wide and any reasonable length . It is important that they are all the same thickness . Also make a test piece the same size. I cut on the table saw with a small thin kerf blade . Set the fence at 60 degrees . Using the test piece , cut the end off at at 60 degrees . Measure the length of the cut side. Set a stop on the fence to equal that measured length . You are cutting pieces that are the same length on all four sides. Keep cutting test pieces until you are convinced that you have one that is very accurate. Set the stop on the fence and don't move it . Cut all the pieces for the two cubes , which would be
6 pieces , any combination of woods. The other 6 pieces between the cubes are filler and are cut to your chosen length . Then start gluing together the cubes with Titebond glue . Take your time and let the glue dry . You will get glue on your fingers . Use a wet rag. After the pieces are all glued together and dry , I use a disk sander to sand all four sides and both ends. If you are going to make a pen out of your segmented blank, no need to sand . Hope this helps . Have any questions ?
Your blanks always make my jaw drop! I've been experimenting with segmenting myself since the last time I was posting here about it. I am still having issues with misalignments, and I need to make better jigs, but every time I see your blanks, its always an inspiration.
