As a general rule, I'm pretty well satisfied with everything I've gotten from PSI... I've always had good luck with their products and shipping, so I was excited to see that they would carrying the crush/grind peppermill inserts at a much lower price than I normally pay. I bought a supply of 10 units at a savings of about $45.... I was thinking they had made a deal with Ideal corp out of Denmark... Not.... their version while it looks very much the same as the Danish version, are made in Taiwan.... Taiwan usually makes a fair quality product and these are of fair quality. However, the aluminum shafts are not quite as polished, the plastic around the ceramic grinder has more of an opaque look that doesn't look quite so solid. And I didn't think the works were as smooth as the ones I've used in the past.

Also their dimensions are in the imperial size spectrum instead of the metric, so my holes are slightly off.... Bottom line is, I'll use the 10 units I have, but when they are used up, I will revert back to the Ideal Products out of Denmark.

I picked one up to try. I could tell from the info that it's not an actual crush grind brand.

Seems like the issue with the bits is your own fault as you didn't follow the Instructions. :-).

I appreciate your comments about the potential weaknesses of the parts though and will take a look when I do mine.

The price is good!

You are right on the drilling bit... I've been doing these things so long that I automatically drill with my standard bits... I looked at the units in the PSI catalog on line, they looked the same as the Ideal units, I even downloaded the instructions to my computer files, but didn't look closely at the drill sizes...I made an assumption that they were the same...and you know what assume spells....
I usually make these pepper mills half dozen at a time and already had them drilled and turned when I pulled the inserts down to put them together... they fit and they work, but not as smoothly as I would like.
