I joined the forum in May of 2009 and I have soaked up tons of information since then but this is my first post here! I have learned alot as I begin making pens and I am absolutely amazed by some of the creative things that I see here. I am looking forward to progressing up to some of the more advanced design that I have seen depicted here. I havent posted up until now because virtualy every question I have has has been answered by using the search feature. Nearly everyone here has in some way contributed to the "little" bit of knowledge that I now have for pen crafting.
I make my pens in a slightly less conventional way since all of my other skills and hobbies revolve around metalworking and machining/fabricating. I craft my pens on a descent sized metal lathe with tools intended for metal cutting and do things like drilling my blanks on the milling macine. My pen press is a 1ton arbor press and I measure almost everything with digital calipers. even though I already had all of this equipment I still cant believe how much money you can spend on this new obsession.
I look forward to learning even more every time I visit, and eventually even being able to contribute something myself.
I will attach a couple of pics (not the best I know) of pens that I have been working on to give as gifts this Christmas. Mostly slimlines and cigars, and one picture of my first fancy(at least for me) coconut fountain pen.
