Just bought myself a Nova 162-44. It's on sale right now with $500 off for $899.

I already have a Jet 12-21VS so I might keep that as a second lathe or sell it.

I was going back and forth between the Nova 162-44 and the Jet 14-42VSK but in the end I decided on the Nova. Not because of price but I had heard it was a better quality than the Jet. I liked the beef of the Jet more though.

I'm excited to get it assembled and give it a run. I'll still mostly use it for pens but every now and then, you just have to buy yourself a new toy! Yeehaw!

Mine is due to arrive on the 10th. Its a Rikon 70-100 and I got the VS package for it ..... not as much money as yours but then all I ever turn is pens so it's more lathe than I really need. I might change the one I have now into a buffing station.
 
I like the idea of the buffing station.

That's the one but it's not a mini lathe. I had a mini lathe and then a midi lathe and this is what I would call a full size lathe but not as big as the big powermatics.

On their web site, Nova does call it a mid range and use the term "compact" several times in their product description. That being said it looks plenty big enough to me, it weighs over twice as much as the Rikon 70-100 that I'm getting. So perhaps they were referring to price rather than capacity when they said mid range.
