Hi there,
Working in 2 car garage and occupying only a half of it is a major challenge! I have recently sold my Jet VS1221, just to buy Laguna 1412 bandsaw just to place it in the same spot. Now I have to admit I miss turning... and yet again, I'm shopping for a lathe. This time I'm aiming for a machine I could just put on my bench, do my thing and put it back :) I just returned the PSI turncrafter after realizing it lacks the power for my needs (I don't turn bowls, mostly pens, handles, occasional spindle).
Just today I googled again "benchtop lathe" and this new Laguna just popped up!
I called Laguna 800 and was told this lathe will be available Dec 1st! right in time for a Xmas gift wish list!
With 1HP and 93lbs, it's the kind of I could keep under the bench, I think....
Anyone has any more news? Rockler seems to be the only one listing specs so far...

Not to be a downer but a lathe is not a tool that should be used as a portable tool that gets moved around alot. You can throw the levelness and alignment out on a lathe real easily. Just an opinion.

Sounds like the lathe will do exactly what you want it to do. Its specs look very similar to the Laguna 12/16 with the exception of a shorter turning distance & about 25 lbs lighter. I had the Laguna 12/16 & it worked great for me. Wish I hadn't sold it. I have the Turncrafter Commander 10. It looks like the 10/14 would be all I need. I only turn pens & bottle stoppers.

If it is anything like the Laguna midi lathe, I would stay away from it. It's too bad you sold your jet 1221, that's an awesome lathe. What I would do is look into making a flip table for the lathe so you can rotate it out of the way when it isn't needed. There are several youtube videos showing various designs and almost all of them offer plans for sale.

I think the large Laguna lathes are fine, but the smaller ones lack quality control and are not worth the cost.

Jet are very nice. You could always step back to the 1018vs, it's a quite capable lathe.

I would also stay away from nova, especially the comet. It's pretty much a piece of crap.
