new kid on the block here, I found the forum while looking for something and found a great community here and decided to join the same day I found it.
I like the well organized articles and bits of help there is here and hope that I can contribute in a positive way.
I was introduced to the lathe in 1980 while in high school and have been turning pens since about 2003, and have been a woodworker for longer than that. what can I say, its a great hobby!

Welcome Arvin.

Might not be anything new but below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.
http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42446

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

I will third that but then again does anybody live in Michigan ;-) anymore seems everyday I see out of state tags. Couple years ago they were Michigan now it seems a three way tie with Cali, N. Dakota and Ohio.

Welcome to the forum. With the experience you have I am sure your input will be a great addition to an already great forum.
