Hello All,

Just wanted to say thanks for allowing me onto this board. I am a systems administrator working as a contractor for New York State Courts. I have dabbled in pen turning for a couple of years now, but now am getting back into the swing of things. I do support a few small local business with IT support and some web site development and design on the side. I was once a WoW addict (for those of you who do not know, you should be very happy, its not something you want to explore or even google for that matter), but now replacing that with woodworking.

I am also going to try my hand at making hammered dulcimer hammers. I would like to try making a mountain dulcimer at some time, but right now, I do not have the tools nor the space for the tools nor all the knowledge just yet.

For my favorite wood would have to be Olive Wood from the Holy Land. It turns like butter and makes the shop smell like olives. The grain is simply stunning.

If you guys would like to know anymore, just ask. Thanks!

Jeremiah.

Welcome Jeremiah, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

@ Dale, yes I did, I go annually to the woodshow there. I was amazed at how many vendors where selling pen stuff! I did pick up the table saw handle thingies though. When I get the scraps I need to cut the down to size and hopefully these things will be more safer than my push stick. The only problem is that I have to put them together. :(

Thanks all for the great welcome. Hopefully I will be posting some pics soon of a Blackwood/Purpleheart/Paduak teachers pen kit as a birthday present I am making someone.

Thanks for the library, its nice to have all those documents organized!! Since I have developed an allergy to CA, its nice to see that Poly finish which I will be trying soon as I am sick of the results I am getting with Shellawax!
