Hello my name is caden hrabak and i am a 16 year old high school student currently attending a shop class under mr.Fitzgerald and star youccum. I started making pens in shop class about 3 years ago for fun because it was a project that seemed fun and cheap and the first pen was free.

This year i really need money for prom and well pen making was fun and it made me good money. i recently bought a lathe and set of tools for 60$. since then i made an order from psi and have started making them for sale. so far its working :)

I was reffered to this website from a recent friend his name i believe is displaced canadian? i think. anyways a very nice person he gave me quite a few blanks now i have more blanks then kits and need to make another order.

i came here to ask for some advice and tips anything from how to finish pens better to how to market and sell them. or any useful websites.

Thank you :D

Welcome Caden. The first link below will give you a bit of info on penturning and touches on the finish. There are so many different ways people here finish their pens. I suggest you wander through the above links to Library and Wiki and look for tutorials on finishing. You can check out the "Markets and Shows" forum and read back some to maybe help with the selling part. Best of all would be to see if there is a local chapter in your area.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
