New Find - 26 inch 15,000 lumen Angle Adjust Dual LED Daylight Shop Light

Found at Rural King this week a dual light adjustable 26" LED shop light advertised as 15,000 lumen with Daylight coloring.

The id usual lights are adjustable by 40 degrees of rotation in each direction with thumb screws on one end to lock them in position.

Actual light size is 24 inches as one would expect with the other 2 inches being part of the frame.

Not cheap, at $60 but could be a decent answer to some of the recent discussion on lighting over a lathe or other work area.

Lol. Have you ever heard of not mounting your light at 26" above the work surface? How about not having a "dark" rest of your shop?

I expect like many product ratings the lumen output of a shop light is presented ideally for the manufacturer, not so much for the actual application. That is why I wrote "advertised as 15,000 lumen".

However, if it is rated to put out 15,000 lumen at your 26", with my shop and mounting I would already be down to about 3450 lumen per sq meter at the work surface.

That will do fine for me as I have 6 other 5,000 lumen lights mounted in the "dirty" work area of my shop, which is in the 350-400 sq ft range.

If it gets too bright, I'll just use some tinted safety glasses.

Update: this unit does need to be wired, so no plug and play. If this not in your skill set you will need some help. The back plate does have 2 knock-outs so I used some 16 gauge SO cord I had extra of to add male and female plugs to go with my daisy chained lights.

One other note: it does have separate + and - DIM wires for a control in the event you want to dim it or you don't want to wear tinted safety glasses in the shop.

Great looking light!

I too like plenty of light in my shop and particularly over the pen lathe. I am particular about colors and daylight or 5000K light is my preferred colors.

I have two 48" 5000k LED light directly over the lathe at ceiling height (8 ft) in addition to numerous other lights in the room. I like bright!

I was in the shop today thinking that I really should get some better lighting! That would light up my complete 8x16 shop really well!

As we age, we need more light....I like it, escpecially the adjustable angle of the heads. I do prefer the 4000k range of lighting....I find it easier on your eyes, but I do have some 5000k around too. I also think that 60.00 is really pretty reasonable....great find and thanks for showing us!

I guess you are right about the value, Michael. I hate to spend more than $20 for 5000 lumen and this 3x that for 3x the money.

I used to light the shop by candles, but found that to be lacking (about 12 lumens each). Upgraded to oil lamps. Perhaps it is time to upgrade once again. This could be equivalent to the happenstance a few years ago when my friend explained that there was a way to pull on a hidden cord that would take my chainsaw to the next level. No more moving that entire beast forth and back to cut up the logs for firewood!

Test mounted the adjustable light above the lathe today. It does make a difference, but a huge one for me. I have a 3 sided work area with lathe on one side, table saw to the left and bench grinder/sander bench to the right all with 4 foot shop light style 5000 lumen daylight LEDs over each work station in a 7.5 foot square.

Is there enough difference in my current configuration to leave it up or buy a second light - no

If I had less light and or a smaller area with less light I would definitely mount this light.

As it is, I will not mount this one here and it will go into the casting room over my wife's work station. She will be elated.
