I have a 13' benchtop along my garage wall that is made of particle board. Lots of glue and abuse from the previous owner. It served well enough over the years, but I have yearned for something a little more substantial, and yes, nicer.

I looked around the web and found that Grizzly has some 2 1/4" maple butcher block slabs. They also have some 1 3/4" maple tops available too. The prices were good. So I ordered a 8' x 30" x 2 1/4" butcher block slab and a 5' x 30" x 2 1/4" slab. The 5-foot slab is on backorder and won't ship until late August. But they sent me the 8-foot piece.

Wow! I'm very pleased with the top. Nice and flat. There is a very small chip on one edge (about 1/4" or so), but not a big deal. All in all, I'm very happy with it. I need to remove the old benchtop and reorganized my shop - building some shelf cabinets, going to put in a couple extra power outlets.

I'll post some picture when I'm done.

Grizzly doesn't make these maple tops themselves. They are a distributor for Michigan Butcher Block Company (www.butcherblock.com).

Anyway, if you're looking for a maple benchtop, take a look at these. They're very nice.
