Anyone has experience using this Craftsman 12 in. Band Saw Sears item# 00922400000? $350.00 in stock at my local store. The sales people have no clue when I ask them questions..:D

Mark Duginske has some books on the band saw. The new complete guide to the band saw. In his fine wood working dvd on band saws he uses a 12" craftsman band saw for numerous operations. Cabriole legs is one example. I just upgraded to a Rikon 14†from the craftsman 12†and it worked well for most everything I through at it. I do cabinet work as well as pens and such so I needed a bigger saw. In his DVD he points out that adjustments and a sharp band will do wonders on an inexpensive machine. I for one expected to see big pricy machines in the video and was pleasantly surprised to see machines most everyone can afford being used. I would recommend the book and DVD.

I gave the craftsman 12†to a friend’s son who is just starting out and he is now trying to work it to death.

I have the Craftsman 12". I bought it based on some reviews in the magazines, and so far I like it. I don't have too much experience on bandsaws, so I can't compare it to anything. i think the previous comment about the blade is a good one. The blade that came with it worked good in the beginning, but it is pitiful now. I am going to upgrade to a better quality blade real soon. One of the bearings(blade guide) that came on it is stuck, so I'm thinking those arent the best quality. Other than that so far so good. Maybe someone with more band saw experience can chime in with some more advise for you.

Dont know about the sears but i just bought a Ridgid 14" bandsaw from Home depot for $360. Seems like a good quality saw. No complaints yet ,had it about 3 months.

That is a pretty good saw. Good sized table, roller bearings, 7" resaw, ect., but for a few bucks more, I would go for the Ridgid at Home Depot.

I have the sears 12" Like it alot, the stock blade is as most stock blades, not the highest quality but can be used for quite awhile before upgrading.

I've looked at many; as I'm shopping for one. Right now I'm leaning toward the Ridgid from Home Depot. However, I believe the Craftsman might have a better warranty. Need to dig and read more..[:0]

If you decide to go the Rigid route you might want to check ebay for Home Depot coupons. Last year when I bought a Rigid jointer, I got a 20% off coupon for about $15. Saved me enough money to be worth it.

When i bought my ridgid there was some paperwork that you could use and go to thier site and possibly get a lifetime warranty in it. I filled it out but havent heard back yet. Now that ive been reminded maybe ill check into it.

I don't know about the Sear saw, I have a Delta 14", but the comments about sharp blades are right on.... in an earlier thread, one of the more experience members here or on another site, made a comment that he was told by the people at Wolverine Band Saw Blades (I think this is right company) that most times a band saw blade is only good for a 200 or so board feet before they worn out.:(:(
