I have admired the talent that Jonathan Brooks has for casting blanks. The combination of colors, the texture, the depth are appreciated by many besides myself. But over the last couple of days, I have garnered a new appreciation for his "pimp crystal" replacement.

I am trying to do my first one. Got it out (per his method) just fine, but turning that tiny booger is he**. And then trying to polish it, part it off, and glue it in. I have always been blessed with patience but this is pushing it to the Nth degree.

Jonathan, I look at your pens and those crystal replacement and stand in awe of you my friend.:bananen_smilies046:

Yeah, Jonathon inspired me to try this one below. I don't think I've ever forgiven him for putting that idea in my head, ha ha ha! I full sized Majestic is NOT easy to take apart!!!

Thanks Jonathon....

Thanks Richard! Patience is definitely needed with those lil buggers. The worst part is when you drop it just after parting it off and it's lost in the shavings or sucked up the dust collector :frown:

I just checked that link and it looks like I'll need to redo my post due to me changing around my photobucket stuff. It took all the pics off, SORRY guys and gals! Didn't think about that. That'll be a nice project for tomorrow.

I haven't made one of these for some time now. Maybe I'll have a look in my component storage to see if I have anymore Majestics...

Ron, Here's some pics to give you an idea.

Wow. I am not sure how something that small gets turned. I am going to have to try it when I get my collet chuck next month. I don't have anything to hold something that small. Great job on those pens!!

Jonathan- I see "one" of my problems as I look at your pics. You have those on Majestics. I am turning one for a Maj. Jr. which is smaller!!! Someone had posted that a Majestic takes a 5mm crystal and a Jr. takes a 3mm. When it gets that small it's the thickness that is causing some problems.

You STILL get my admiration my friend!! Something for me to strive for. :worship::tongue::good:

Lol...I just didn't show the Jr's! Still very doable. Much smaller and more of a pain, but very doable.

Yeah, Jonathon "INSPIRED" me to do one of these too. So far I've only done two. But I also did a replacement with a colored crystal from Michaels. They come in assorted sizes & colors. Kind of a lazy man's way.

Not the best picture but here's the crystal. It actually was a darker blue, but the flash washed out the color a little.

Here's a Majestic Squire using a custom brooks blank.I think this one is just a little too big.

It doesn't really have to hold something that small. Since you turn down the end of the piece, polish it, and then part it off, the part of the item that is held in your chuck can be normal size.
