I have the possibility to acquire a Rockwell-Delta 46-450(I think). I think the price is good. I just have to move it. I will probably pay some younger boys to help. It seems to be pretty heavy. I do not know if it runs. I do not know if there are any accessories but the tool rest and tail stock are there. Any thoughts on adding this lathe to my shop?

Anyone know if it uses a #1 or #2 taper on the head or tail stock? Any thoughts? Anybody have one of these to offer feedback? I am currently using a Shopsmith Mark V made in the late 80's.

I just started turning in March of this year and any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your help and opinions.

It's definatly mt2 If you have the room and it works properly and the price is good if say go for it. I'd want to know if the variable speed drive works correctly.

MT2. And +1 on Dan's comments. It is a variable speed (Reeves drive). They can be a real issue as parts are often not available. If you look at the aftermarket parts suppliers you can see some can be had, others are nonexistent. That said, if you have had experience rehabbing old woodworking equipment, it might be a good buy.

There's a web site out there that used to be "Old woodworking machinery . Com". I think they may have a new site but used to be a valuable resources for folk doing what you are asking about.

Good luck.

I do not have any photos. I will try and get some tomorrow or Monday.

Ted, is the Reeves drive similar to the drive on the shopsmith? I had to replace the sheeve on the one I acquired.

Dan, the price is so good I can make the room. It is free. I just have to move it.

I would take it no matter what then. :-).

no question.. take it... the reeves drive is similar to the shopsmith. I have a shopsmith and just found a Grizzley for a good price. I have to say, I thought the shopsmith was awesome until I had a chance to use a dedicated lathe. The right height, it has a bigger motor. If you are handy at all, I bet you can rebuild it into a brand new lathe.

Worst case scenario, replace a couple bearings and with the investment of a new motor and variable speed controller you could end up with a brand new lathe
