Need recommendations on air brushing

In the finishing thread there are a number of questions regarding the use of lacquer with an air brush.. I know absolutely nothing about the use of an air brush, can someone give me a recommendation as to what I might need for an inexpensive set up.. being retired and on SS, not a lot of cash available to new tools..

Would you recommend using lacquer on other turnings that I do??... I'm not doing as many pens as I used to.

All you would need is a single action hobby airbrush kit. Michaels crafts sells them for around 20.00. You can pick one up at Harbor Freight for 10.00 and they normally come on sale for half of that. A couple of extra bottles is all the extra accecories that you'll need. If you don't have a compressor you can purchase a couple of cans of compressed air but you'll waste more air on cleaning up the brush after spraying your turnings. I have a 30 pound C02 cylinder with guage that I bought at a welding supply shop years ago that's perfect for airbrushing. I get about 8-10 months on a 20.00 fill up. I used to carve wooden bass lures years ago and have several high end airbrushes but still use that brush from Michaels to spray my pens with.

I own the HF airbrush and it works just fine. Here is a link to it. If you can be patient, it typically goes on sale for between $5 and $6.

If you need a compressor, the Campbel Hausfeld website www.chpower.com often has reconditioned small compressors
at a good price.
