I have the Jet Mini and have ordered an extension table for it to turn some longer items. So I am going to have to make a new base cabinet for the lathe and tools and need to get the overall length of the Jet Mini and the extension table from the mounting holes on each end so I can plan the top size. I tried to get the dimensions online for the extension table, but I have not found any site, not even Jet, that gives the length of the table.

Thanks.

Allen: According to the CSUSA catalog, the JET extension is a 26" extension. I don't know exactly how they measure it so the dimension may not be accurate to the last 1/4".

If you have some space to play with, I would just make your base a couple of inches longer and not worry about it. If you need the dimension to the last millimeter, call JET technical support and ask them. 1-800-274-6846

As an alternative, if you have an existing base, you might not have to build a new one. You could get a length of 2 x 6 (about 50" long) and double it. Mount that on your base and mount the lathe on the 2 x 6. You might have do a little planing or sanding to be sure the surface is flat; but that should not be a big problem. Your extended lathe will hang over the sides of your existing base a little; but I think it would still be safe and stable.

Randy,

Thanks for the help. I can live with 26" +/-

My Jet Mini has been living on one of those cheap tool stands made from angled sheet metal that is rectangular and wide at the bottom and narrows up to the top with an open shelf in the middle. I use to have my grinder on this stand. So when I got the mini, I just swapped out the grinder putting it on a workmate stand and then mounted the mini on a larger piece of scrap wood and then mounted that to the stand. I also have it on a mobile base so that I can roll it around from where I store it to where I turn and have my DC hook up. This has worked pretty well for me over the past year and very stable for the smaller things that I turn, but was always intended as a temporary fix until I got around to making a base cabinet once I decided if I wanted to add the extension table or get a larger free standing lathe. This stand would not work well with just adding in a 2x6 mounted to it with the mini+extension table. So my plan is to make a cabinet with some drawers and shelves along with a tool rack so I am not digging around trying to find the right chisel. I needed to get some clear measurments so that I can start planing the cabinet and how I will put it all together.

So thanks for your help Randy. It is appreciated.
