I just received my Val. present to myself. A beall buffing system. I have the 2" morse and quick change to use it on my lathe, but I may want to make a buffing stand. I have this motor.

GOT a cord put on BUT it is rotating clockwise. I need one that rotated CC. I can't just switch the wires, it sparks, don't ask me how I know, Do you know of any way to get it to turn CC?

That looks like a swamp cooler motor to me, if it is that other terminal is for its other speed. Don't know of any way to make the motor run backwards, but if your going to make it a dedicated buffing station forget the quick change adapter and mount a rod holding all three wheels and set the stand up with the motor on your right when your buffing and the wheels will be spinning towards you just like on the lathe.

Looking at the name plate it shows 115/230 volts and 1750 (only number) rpm. I'm betting the other terminal is for 230 volt operation (some of the internally connected wires may need to be moved also).

Unless the motor is prewired to be reversed, the easiest way is to just rotote the motor around. This may mean the motor will be in the way but a longer belt may get you around this.

Contact Emerson Electric, they may be able to tell you if/how to reverse this particular model. Since there are 5 internal wires it may be possible if the right ones are switched.

Well sorry to say, with the reasearch I've done it looks like you guys are correct. I don't know what the motor came off of. I will just hace to have a left hand buffer. Sure hope it doen't un-buff!

Should have a wiring diagram on how to wire it on the inside of the plate you took off to hook up the wires. It will tell you if there is a reverse wiring .
