It was not cooling the meat the other day.I checked the breakers and they are all not tripped. I set the thermostat to "igloo" setting still nothing. It is "running", but nothing else. Any help will be appreciated... Someone said it might be the relay?

There is thermostat or something liek it on the condensor sometimes these go out. Look on the internet also there are several good sites

Yeah...if its running and isn't cooling, your freon is probably gone. The unfortunate downside to this is that there is leak somewhere and that needs to be found or any new freon you add will just leak right back out.

I do air conditioning for a living. Not freezer but they are very similar.
If it is in the 15 year old range. Through it out and get a new one the electric you will save on the new model will pad for the new freezer in 4-5 years. So it is sort of like you are paying for the new one now.
If it is less than 10 years old get a professional home freezer guy to look at it.
For the cost of the service fee he or she should be able to tell you exactly what is wrong and exactly what it will cost to fix.
The fee to check it should be around 89.00 or less. Then you know for sure.

Clean the dirt out from the coils about once a year a mentioned already when you get it running.

Never plug them into a ground fault receptacle as they are not designed to carry a load of that type. You actually want then on a dedicated circut. Like what you see for a washing machine. One plug in on the receptical and not ground fault. If they are in the garage they cost a lot more to run because it is hot in there. But where else would you put it. Most of them I see are in the garage.

One small thought do you really need a dep freez? I thought I di until I moved and had no place to put it. I do not miss it at all. Good luck, time to call pro.

If it is a newer model with a chip and circuit board. It could be the defrost timer board. The newer fridge freezer we have has had those boards go away about every two years since we have had it. Last revision on the circuit board was M or N. As been said dust bunnies the coils need to be kept cleaner, with the newer fridges and freezers as the coil area and the size of the compressors are smaller then in the old days. Son has my parents old Kelvanator sulfur dioxide fridge they bought new in the early fifties, works better than the newer ones. We have the gas companies repair plan. Waiting on an obscure ignitor for the gas dryer now. The plan is great it has saved more than it has cost us over the time we have had it. If the problem isn't covered they tell you what is wrong. I love it this is the first time they didn't have a part with in a couple hours.

if it is a "frost free" freezer - the defrost timer would be suspect.

If it was the defrost timer, mechanical or newer electronically controlled, it wouldn't be running as he posted in his first post.

Dust and cruft could be clogging the coil but if that were the case, it would either be frozen up or at least partially cooling.

I see this exact problem all the time managing 600+ houses, condos, and rentals here in Florida.

Yeah,,,I keep hotpockets and micr pizzas in there for the kids to get while the wife and I are at work.Plus extra hamburger meat and such..Yes---I did check and made sure they did close it..That is not the problem in this case...

I had one do the same thing and it was a relay. If that's the case it's a quick fix. I think it took the repairman like 20 minutes total.

The newer boards that control the temps and defrost cycles will let the fridge run, as the cooling coil is frosted solid, in the freezer section. temps were running in the high 30's or low 40's Same thing each time the board gone away. It controls the temps in the box too I guess it is an all in one circuit board. and the fridge/freezer was running. each time.
