OK. My father gave me a vacuum pump that he says he got from Harbor Freight. I looked it up and it's this one. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=98076

My problem is that the intake fitting is missing. I can't figure out the threading where that fitting screws into the pump. The manual says the inlet ports are 1/2" ACME and 1/4" SAE. From the picture on Harbor Freight, it looks like that fitting has two threads coming out of it. Are those the 1/2" ACME and 1/4" SAE threads? If so, what is the threading on the bottom of that fitting where it connects to the pump? I'm confused.

The hose that I was planning on using is a 1/4 inch NPT thread, and it's way too small, so I have to adapt it somehow. Any suggestions?

The link you provided lists the pump as having 1/4" SAE Intake. Unless you just got mixed up when writing your post your 1/4" hose fitting may very well fit. I am not sure without actually trying to thread them together if there is a difference in T.P.I. for SAE and NPT.

otherwise I am picturing a quick connect that is 1/2 inch male thread for the pump and 1/4" female thread for the hose.

Had to take mine to an appliance repair/parts store......where the jobbers go for their parts and supplies. We're talking about the appliance/HVAC and stuff like that. Was able to get an adapter that works really well in pulling a vacuum.......it was pricey!!!!

If it's anything like my 2 Robinair vacuum pumps you can use standard brass plumbing fittings. Take your pump into the hardware store if you need to make sure the threading is correct and find a nipple or reducer or whatever it is you need to connect your hose.

The inlet shown in the picture doesn't necessarily need to be used. It simply allows for the connection of two different sizes of charging hose.

Decent charging hoses can be found on ebay pretty cheap:

Be sure to use plenty of teflon tape when making your connections or you may end up with vacuum leaks.

Hope this helps

Joel,
Open the case and look at the aluminum block inside. That is threaded with standard pipe thread. Replace the connections with brass pipe as needed. I threw the case away and just use the block. I put quick connect air fittings right on the block and put in inline on the air connection on the paint pot when I want to use vacuum. let me know if this is not clear.
