I need a faceplate for my new lathe, It uses the standard mt2/1"x8 spindle. I am going to be making bowls etc and I will not use the stock faceplate that comes with the lathe. (jet 1220vs btw)
How big of a Face plate are you looking for, Don Pencil makes some very good Aluminum face plates, But I'd feel safer with the cast faceplate that came with your Jet. a 4 inch face plate is pretty good size for a 1220 lathe.
Why not just take that faceplate you've been complaining about over to the grinder and grind two opposing flats on it? Just enough grind to mount a wrench. It won't really affect its strength or utility. It doesn't even matter what size it is if you have an adjustable wrench........... If you can't mount and dismount it after you do that then just put it in the trash and forget about it! Even if you get a cheap replacement then you'll have an even cheaper spare.
I make my own by buying just a nut at the local FASENAL store, inletting it in a big piece of construction timber and truing it on the lathe. Works for me and costs virtually nothing. Phil
