To keep my business going and to make it grow more, it is necessary to find a temporary work shop. Here is why; we moved back to Texas and are living in a motor home for about a year to buy a home. Meanwhile there are orders and clients that need servicing. We live in Dickinson and our grand children (who we wanted to live closer) live in Friendswood. We are starting to look for properties in Pearland having exhausted searches in this area.
So here is my wish. A vacant garage, a third not-used garage, grand-mother's cottage or something to set my mini lathe, band saw, chop saw and other equipment to keep my business alive. It needs power and rent can be adjjusted to cover the expense. The shop might be used three to four hours a day unless a special order comes about.
Any ideas or suggestions or leads would be appreciated.

You might want to give some self storage places in the area a call. Some small operators may be willing to work with you. My wife and I used to own a self storage facility. We rented a couple of spaces to a couple of different bands to practice in. We provided electricity at a cost and they were beneficial to the place since they were there a lot and helped keep an eye on things. It may be hard to find one but might be worth calling around.

Its been a couple of years, but I think on the corner of 96/I-45 there is a storage unit, its to the right just a bit when headed north. They may be willing to work with you. I know there is some in Dickinson, but for the life of my I cant remember. I grew up on Holland rd.

There may be a storage unit on the back side of McRee Ford/Kroger plaza, but that one I am not sure about. Maybe it is down 517 a bit.

You are the second to recommend this idea. I will start calling on storage units tomorrow.

Thank you.

Mike: I called them today and the smallest area is 400 sq. ft at one dollar a sq. ft. and I pay for power. It makes sense and is a good deal but not for my small operation.
Thank you for responding and I am impressed at your accuracy regarding the unit. It was not easy to get the phone number off the outside wall.

Give me a couple of days, let me see what I can find. Are you looking for anything in particular? Any requirments other than electricity, for how long.

It might last a year. I need to plug in a fan in the summer. The lathe, band saw and chop saw need power. It would be nice to have lights but I can supply my own. The floor should be concrete and the area secure against theft. I have some clients who like to visit but can curtail that activity.

Thank you for your participation.

I've rented a 13x50 RV storage, to do my woodwork, for the last 6 years.
It's not the most convenient, but it serves its purpose.
This one came with 120v and 240v electric service, at no additional charge.

Okay, I am going to work on this. Sounds like the right situation might turn out more permanent.

Thank you,

A dollar a square foot!!!!!!!!!! Damn!! Things are expensive in Texas. I got a 500 Sqft unit I rent for 180 a month.

I guess the market drives the price but that was extremely expensive. Around here I am right in the middle of the price range for a large RV unit.

Too bad John. If you come to Dallas and show me how to do wine corks, you can use my shop :)

WOW what an offer. I have watched your comments over the past two years and can say it would be fun to work close to you. I have sooooo many wine corks. Once you let people know what you do, they donate them in bundles.
