Need 5000 cocobolo blanks?

Chances are he won't sell it. He has other auctions as well for 1000 and 500 blanks. The price per blank starts going up for the smaller amounts. Has anyone here ever used diamond.tropical before? Is their stuff any good? I might be hard to get a group order for even 1000 blanks. 50 people with 20 blanks a piece. Assuming $5 shipping, that a little less than $0.62 per blank. Would it be worth it?
 
I would think it would be a pretty good deal so long as it's good wood.

Funny thing is, he's got a smaller one of 100 blanks, free shipping for $60 BIN. That's only 60 cents a blank.
 
There was a bulk buy about 2 years ago. These folks supply furniture manufacturers. Their product is good, but mostly straight, traditional grain...like most furniture manufacturers prefer.
 
I have used him before. A wide variety of "grains", Anthony and the other AZ turners that went to last years get together saw a couple of the blanks. You cannot really tell what the grain is going to do until you turn it.

Was slow on shipping. Hard to contact. I have been satisfied with the blanks we got. Few had some cracks. Ill try to post some pics.

Here is a couple of pics. Will take some of what the blanks look like shortly.

Search the archives for Anthony's discussions of his Legacy mill, and for Fred's promise of a much less expensive version some time in the (relatively) near future. You'll find a LOT of discussion on those. In this case, I think Tom is using one of the mills (like a Legacy) and a round-over bit on a router to get to the approximate shape, then some hand sanding to get it to the final dimensions.
 
My Father-in-law just bought some of those blanks and I must say they are not cut exactly square. His vice had a hard time centering some of the first few I tried luckily he has a band saw so we can clean them up a bit.

There is actually a rope twist rounter bit that produces the rope twist design.

It was actually done on Anthony's Legacy mill. He brought it to our last get together. Alot of hand sanding was done afterward. I even did a CA finish and hand sanded it.

Some of the blanks are figured as you can tell from the two above and some are not. I agree they are not all cut real square. I am home and will go take pictures of a couple blanks.
