Here is a natural edge maple vessel that my daughter and I turned over Christmas break. This was a piece of maple log that was pretty dry when we got to it. it is 3.5"tall and 3.75" diameter. The finish is tung oil.

SUPER-natural edge. That is a prize! Did you have any idea what was lurking inside that turning blank? Your daughter and you are quite a team.

Thanks for the compliments.
It is a different piece but looks great with the cotton and peacock feathers my wife added.
My daughter wanted the pith in line when we first mounted the blank between centers. We soon realized that with the pith not running dead center of the wood that we were going to have a piece with more bark on one side than the other. It turned out to be a big design element.
