As part of the Estate Blank fundraiser, there was a bag with 8 blanks all stuck together. They were easy to pull apart, but were then stuck to my fingers. I have worked with many blanks that were coated in wax, but this coating was different - I had to wash my hands before touching anything else. About 6 months ago I did include one of the eight blanks in a box for one of the sales. I got a PM a few days later where the recipient basically said he "didn't even want to touch it."

I had 7 more, and yesterday was curious... I cut to tube size, cleaned my hands and the saw table. Drilled the tube hole, cleaned my hands and the drill press jig. Glued in the tube and cleaned my hands. Took it to the lathe and took a few spins - WOW! The ugly duckling was beautiful. I now have a beautiful pen and clean hands.

In the spirit of the season - I have 6 more blanks and for the first 6 who would like one, I'll "stick" (couldn't resist that) one in an envelope and mail it you. (wrapped in saran wrap). Just claim in this thread.

Cheers!

I'll be sure to post piccies when I get done with it.

I'd like to see that! 👍

Can't wait, any clue what type of wood?

I'll guess it was a waxed burl package of Aussie Blanks. The wax didn't fully cure and was probably in the bag for 10-12 years. I'll bet each is nice - and the sticky wax can be scrapped off easily, just messy.

The wife and her sister got to mine before I did and had to take a look.

They weren't aware that the blank would be sticky [emoji23]
