Well folks I somehow survived the crazyness of redneck Nascar. It was like 200,000 people trying to get to the race track that only held 75,000 people. I'm also pretty sure every redneck from 3 states was there. We left at 10:00 a.m. to get there. Our plans were to park and then enjoy some Corona's. On most days it takes me about 40 minutes to get there. It took us 3 hours to get there with all the traffic. The race was rather boring, but was still fun. I read in the paper that they turned away 30,000-40,000 people due to no place to park. People just started parking in the median of the interstate and started walking. Even the fabulous governor from KY missed the race. The race was over around 11:00 p.m. and I was home by 2:30 a.m. I'm sure glad I didn't work today as i've had the worst hangover of my life. Between 3 of us we managed to have about 67 Corona's. But don't worry Gwen was our designated driver. The only thing she drank was water.

Here at PIR they provide shuttle buses from a local venue about 20 miles from the track. They close the roads to all but shuttle traffic on the route the buses take, and it works really well. It costs $7 per carload to park at the venue and take the bus, so the whole party goes for the one price. The ride takes less than half an hour. They run the buses all day long, so you can come at any time. After the race there is about a half hour wait in line to get on one of the buses to go back to the car park. It really helps the traffic. I NEVER drive to sprint cup races. I'll drive on Friday for truck or Saturday for Nationwide, but always take the shuttle for the cup race.

Damn, that is a great idea.

Well they do the shuttle thing here in Louisville for the Derby. It works really well. But would not be possible for the Nascar race as the track is 50 miles from Louisville and about 60 miles from Cincinnatti. It's in the middle of nowhere. The did expand the interstate to 3 lanes, but the road from there just isn't capable of 150,000 people.
