I made a promise to myself that I would tackle dust collection this year. I bought a dust collector last year and never installed the ducts necessary to have it in place and operating. So this year I started January 1 and I am still not done. I have a sound closet built, my 6" mains run, and am now working on the 4" drops at each machine. Pipe and connectors are everywhere. I can't get to my lathe at the moment.

I guess I am just whining but needed to whine in a forum that would understand. The wife just does not care too much about it. I wanted to participate in the Bash this year with a pen entry but by the way its looking I may have to just wait until next year. Although I am sure my lungs will thank me I am still slightly disappointed. May I will just try to guess the shop. :)

The last thing I have to install is a connection from my 6" pvc to my 6" DC outlet. I want to use flexible DC tube for this because I need to slide my DC out of the closet to empty it so I am going to use that and a quick clamp. Problem is I can't find anywhere to buy just a couple feet of it. If anyone knows I could sure use a lead.

Ok. Enough whining. Back to work. Thanks for listening. :)

That's part of the fun. You also submit a photo of a pen or other item that you've posted to IAP within the last couple of years that Jon puts with the shop photo as a clue. There's always next year. :smile:
 
There's also the daily trivia contest…easy to jump in while you're waiting to "dust off" your lathe. :biggrin:

Thanks Bob. I just realized today that I might need more in 6" in my plan so I might need to buy 10 foot anyway. My plan has changed so much.

I will post pictures when done and my shop is clean. I am embarrassed by what it looks like now. :)
 
I bought a Cyclone dust collector. No need for an additional separator. I think I know where to go from here now.
