I hate getting out of motion when I'm in my shop, distractions that take away from the progress and focus of a project really irritate me! I was finding that taking out and cutting sand paper contributed to this. I don't want to pay the extra $ for rolled paper, and like to keep different functions of a project organized.

This is what I started with...

So this is what I came up with....

$5 box from HF

A 3/4" board, w/ 1/4" datto slots just loosely fitted

I cut each sheet into strip for sanding... as an added bonus if you work up in grits and alternate which blade cuts the top surface of the sandpaper you actually sharpen your scissors as well.

I shoved the closest ends into the box first and placed a folded piece of cardboard under the backside so that I could easily grab the distal end as it sat up.

Als any used strip is flipped over color side up so I know where to start next time.

I use a regular paper cutter, the guillotine type like we used to have at school. I've cut ALOT of sandpaper with it and it's just as sharp as the day I bought it.

I made a cutter similar to bigevil posted. I just used a 1/4 scrap sheet, attached the blade and marked some size lines. Works great. I'm a bit like redneck..it drives me crazy when something is out of place and makes me waste time. I've been toying with making a sanding/finish box but was going to make it from scratch. I think I might take this idea with a cheap toolbox though looks like it would be much faster.
