I thought I'd share here with my IAP friends about my recent project that I've been working on. I posted earlier this year about being disgnosed with breast cancer, and I also later posted asking about what programs people might use to design something like a coin. One astute IAP member (LEAP) figured out what I was doing, and after that, due to another recent thread, I found out that there are actually quite a few geocachers here on the IAP. So I wanted to share with people the geocoin that I designed. I made it with a company that mints geocoins and he's doing it as a charity coin, and so will be donating $1 to the Susan Komen Foundation for each coin sold. I'm pretty proud to have come up with the design and am glad to be working with someone so that the sales will generate a donation to a worthy organization. If you know anyone who is a geocacher, and especially if their lives have been touched by breast cancer, please pass along the link. I know that a geocoin may not have much meaning to someone outside of the geocaching world, but I still hope that even the non-cachers on the forum will take a look at it and appreciate what it stands for and the personal meaning and pride that it has for me:

Nice coin!

I have about 10 coins and micros.

One recent trackable we came across was called LOST KEYS and had 97 keys on the chain lol Took awhile to find a large enough cache for that TB

Geocins and trackable are a fun part of geocaching. I'll send out at least one of these coins into the world to travel, but like a lot of people, I mainly collect them and will do that with these. I'm going to get one in each finish and have an idea of how I want to design a display/frame set-up so I can put them on my wall. Thanks everyone for the interest and support.

Very nice Angela. I did some geocaching with my boys this summer up in the Sierras. A lot of exercise and good times hunting down caches hidden along hiking trails.

That is so cool! I just put in my order for a couple of them. I like travel bugs and geocoins, but I send mine out into the world. Every time they move I get an E-Mail and get to remember them all over again.

Thought I'd give people an update on this project. The coins came in and have now shipped out to people. It looks like it's going to generate somewhere around a $200 donation to the Susan Komen Organization. I had 20 of the coins made in a special "artists edition" finish that went to me exclusively and wasn't sold, and I've also donated two of those coins to be auctioned off on ebay to raise money, one for someone who did me a good deed when I was diagnosed and since then has run into significant financial problems and needed money to pay for things like wood for heat for the winter, and another one that's going to raise money for a man whose mom died of breast cancer and who committed to walking in all 15 of the Susan Komen 3 day 60 mile walks next year, which is quite an admirable goal. So those two auctions will also help two people with very worthy needs.

I'm planning out a way to have some of my coins framed, to be displayed on my wall as a reminder of the project, and the rest of the artist edition ones will be given to my immediate family. It was an emotional project to finish, but I am glad I did it, and I sure do appreciate the IAP family's interest in it and encouraging words! I know there are a few geocachers on here, but I also know that to most people outside of geocaching, a geocoin doesn't hold a whole lot of meaning, but I think given the content of this coin, most people can appreciate it even if they don't have strong feelings about geocoins!

Hi Angela!

I got the two I had ordered last week. They are even nicer than the pictures were! Thank you, thank you for telling us about this project so we would have the opportunity to participate with you!

Scott.

Thanks for reminding me about this I received an email that they were in but I was traveling at the time and forgot all about it. I'll dig the email up and get them on the way here today.

I am a geocacher in Virginia Beach, VA. Look me up at cocacola12.

Hey Mike, well I'm in California, but my parents and sister cache in Virginia- they live in the Fredericksburg area. Their caching names are vaetanone and greykitties.
