Has demodex mites.....he is about 4 months old. ( I adopted him from the street and dont know his exact age.) It is making his fur fall out and there seems there is no real cure except time. I searched the net and the treatments are the same ones I have been doing. Says they should grow out of it. Poor ol Hooch II looks like a raga muffin..... The worst part is not being able to "fix" the problem. Vet says it may take months for it to go away. Anyone have a suggestion on this. It sucks to have to just sit back and watch this "run its course". Thanks for letting me vent. Off to the vet again in the am..........

You need to dip with Amitraz. It's aparasiticidal drug. (kills mites)

One medication, available through a vet prescription, is Mitaban. There are others which contain amitraz.

My dad was an EWO on a S2F. Some of his best stories from being a jr enlisted airdale seemed to concern the ancestry, temperament, habits, and personal hygiene of the various and assorted chiefs he failed to avoid crossing paths with while floating around in the middle of the Gulf of Tonkin a couple of years before I was born. Interesting enough that when I enlisted, I joined the USAF :-)

We all have our crosses to bare......but you did serve, thank you.

Benadryl will keep the itching down a bit it was recomended for my dog who had allergies. It wont kill the mites but may give some relief. Can you shampoo with NIX a head lice shampoo? Might be worth asking about. Hard to imagine nothing can be done.

You're welcome.

Yes, they also serve, who decline to float around in the middle of the ocean for months at a time with a bunch of other horny guys :-)
