A question was asked about different kinds of drive motors. What I use kinda falls into that group. I turn pens on a Sherline 4500 that is set up for wood.
I have a box full of the stuff for metal working but have never used them.
My motor is a DC motor with controler from Dayton. I think they are way to expensive but I sure like mine.
This is one of three lathes in my shop that are used almost daily.

You folks are great---I had forgot about my log cabin tailstock sheild. It was a after thought and I wanted to get it built before it grabbed me.
This really started out as the lathe that I was going to take to shows. That's before I figured out you can't sell pens and turn them at the same time.
