Hi all,

I just recently retired my old pen squaring jig and built a new one.
Attaching pictures of the build.
If you have any ideas on how to improve it that would be welcome and if there are any questions on the build I am happy to share.

Anthony

Drill the end of the screw that bears on the blank and add a nylon plug or elephants foot ( like a T shaped bit of plastic or aluminium) to prevent damage to the blank or tubes.

Thanks for the inspiration I currently use a set of counter bores which are exact fits in the tube to trip my barrels

Good job !
Sure seems most (well, a lot) of folks have gotten away from using a barrel trimmer mill. I use the jacobs chuck, transfer punch type on my lathe.
One slip on the barrell trimmer mill could sure ruin your flow.

Definitely not a fan of a belt sander to sand final barrels. There is play between the platen and sandpaper. Disc sander is a better choice in my opinion.

Don't think the blank or tube will get damaged as the tubed blank rotates on the rod. That is the way mine works and have been using it for some time.

John is correct, a disc sander is a better choice. I have a 12" Delta disc and couldn't get by without it.
I use peel & stick / psa discs for a solid surface. Note that Velcro discs have give and therefore may not sand flat and true.

Charlie has been listening to what I have been saying for years I see. :) Solid surface. Velcro has too much give and will round the ends over and can go past where it is safe and the ends of the tubes show. Seen it.
