....and what Mom wants, Mom gets!!!:D

My Mom has arthritis in her hands and has to wear a hand brace. She can no longer hold the other normal pens I've given her so time to make something a bit special.

She had a number of requests;
1. It needs to be fat enough to hold easily
2. She like to hold pens very near the tip
3. It must be a click-pen
4. She wants a silver finsh on the hardware, but it must be VERY tough - this time
5. 'Ooh, thats nice' Mom spots my prized Ocelot blank

Ok, I hope this works or I'm gonna look stupid (again )[:I]

Here is the material of choice, 1 Stainless Steel pop rivet, 1 piece of 8mm Stainless Steel threaded rod and a chunk of 16mm Stainless threaded rod.

I will use a 24k Artisan click pen with some serious mods
Here are some pics of progress so far.

These bits won't be used. The only remaining gold bit will be used but hidden. If you've done a click pen you will know what the silver tube was for.
Any guesses on what the rivet is for?[:D]

Very innovative, Mr. Rat!!!!

The rivet will hide the eraser, of course!

And operate the "click"[:D][:D]

Good progress, so far!

Nearly there!![:D] Just built it to check it works. I had to hand drill the inside back end of the rivet because I didn't leave enough space for the bottom spring[:(] With the exception of the plunger, all the metal bits are fixed as part of the blank. This means they serve as the bushes too. I don't think the final shape will do it any favours, but it needs to be functional for my Mom.[:D] I've just got to polish it up, then I'll post it in SOYP.[:D]

wow, very unique. The blank is gorgeous and it certainly looks like it would be easy to hold.

The only thing I might suggest is that if she has a hard time holding things a really slick polished surface is not the best solution. Maybe adding a slight texture right at the grip area.
