What a beautiful dog. Is he trained to be a hearing dog or does it just come naturally. I have two dogs and they let me know when someone comes to the front door and I am down in the garage working. They come down and bump me and bark and then I go to the door. There is no doorbell.

Yep, I have a "dogbell" too! I can't hear the doorbell in my office, but I always know when someone is at the door, and I know it as soon as the UPS truck hits our block. The driver always bangs on the door because he knows I can't hear the bell in the office, and the dogs take umbrage. Now they sound off when he comes to ANY house on the block, as soon as they hear the truck.

My dog also lets me know when any delivery is made at any house on our short block. UPS, FedEx, or USPS- she can tell what their motor sounds like and starts barking. Dogs are amazing companions.

Cindy, he wasn't trained to be a hearing dog. I think naturally he picked up that i had trouble hearing and he used to sleep in the bed with us 'til I started having the back problem then i couldn't stand him next to me stretched out almost to the full length of my body, since I had trouble rolling in the bed. Min. Schnauzers by nature are very protective of their owners, but this one is very sensitive of me. he barks differently for different things to let me know who is at the door or if there is something in the yard. i can tell that if it is neighbor who is checking on me or delivery or just a solicitor. the the Chihuahua is his new fiend for a bout a yr+ since he was getting lazy and use to my routine and wasn't moving that much the brown little rascal keeps him busy by wanting to play with him. now that he is 9 yrs old he is not into playing that much. On Jun the 2nd.. Koji took that big attack form a Dog who clamped his jaws around him which cost me about 800+ since he was thinking that the dog was coming to attack me. the poor dog has been through a lot with the medical issues inn his life so far.
Now I have to go make some pens soon.
thank you all for looking at this post, those guys are my new kids at home keeping me on my toes since the main kid is now a young lady finishing college this semester.
