My latest handiwork

Never having placed a pic of my handiwork here, thought I'd show what I'd finished today. Finish is CA. C&C welcome







If anyone is able to guess the blank, I'll send them one. As a clue, it is timber, of sorts and NOT an acrylic blank.

Great looking pen! I might suggest that you not use the flash, though. I wish I had any sort of idea as to the wood--I love it.

The wood looks like spalted tamarind.

The pen is gorgeous.

Sorry, it's not spalted tamarind. :frown: It's not spalted of any kind and it's not a native wood to the USA,:biggrin: I believe a lot of homes are built using this product, in North America.

I think I'd have to agree on the parrallam. If not then it's plain old particle board. Different density and gluing methodology.

Hi Dale,
You are correct in that it is Parallam, down under it was called Blue Gum Scrimber, as that was the species of tree used, it was also done in Pine.
Please PM your address so I can send you a piece. If you don't want it, I'll send it to Sharon for the Lighthouse project, in your name, if that's OK?

Kryn, Thanks, but I won't need any since I still have a supply. Please go ahead and send to Sharon. I think I recognized the Parallam because I turned pens from it a couple of years ago.

If you would like a challenge try turning it cross grain. If you can hold it together you can really get some wild patterns doing that.

Not trying to hijack your thread but I thought I'd show you a couple of examples. Both pens were made from cutting the Parallam across the grain but in different directions. Use thin CA to help hold it together. Calling it "mystery wood" was easier than explaining it. Have fun.

Thanks for that Dale, can't believe that they're the same types of pieces, can't really call it wood, I suppose.
Might have to look at getting some off cuts sent over when I run out :biggrin:
