Found some firewood and turned my first bowl. Hope you like it ... going to turn a few more soon.

For experimenting and skill development, I think knot free squares of 2x6 spruce-pine-fir (spf) is great. Very low cost, spf cuts easily, and can have interesting looks when sanded.

Well done! If you don't mind, I'd like to steal the bead detail on the exterior - really like it! Texas oak?
Also, be VERY cautious. Bowl turning can be almost as addictive as pen turning.
Looks like you may have dodged a "Laura" event but stay safe.

It's also a pain in the rear to turn without tearout. It's been said that if one can turn framing lumber well off the tools, you can turn anything. I have a lot of 2 x 4 scrap that i should use to work on my skill set!!
