So no fancy segmenting or high end blanks this time. I wanted to see if I could get an end product I was happy with on some disposable wood. This is some of the batch of silver maple I have lying around.
Made my own closed end mandrel by filing an old mandrel to make a tap. Very happy with the results, but I think I'll need to cut a little longer next time so I can use the tail stock to keep the chatter down until I'm ready to finish out the closed side. The only thing left to do on this one is to make a matching finial but so far I haven't been able to turn one I've been happy with. More practicing to do still I guess.
