I finally had some success with the CA/BLO finish. I made a slimline pencil out of a cedar bland. I think it turned out pretty well for my first succss story. I had two problems though. First, along with my first successful finish also cam by firs bad CA Burn. I was concentrating on th bland when my finger started burning like cazy. Wen I pulled the paper towel off the section with the glue stuck to my finger. I now have a blister plus lost some skin from pulling the paper towel off. My second problem is that I left a few marks on the pen from the sanding. Cedar is a very soft wood and I will just have to be more careful when sanding.
Thsnks to all of you for your instructional help with this finish. I put around 8 coats on the pencil. Should it take that many? Again, thanks for all the help.

nightowl can I make a suggestion. Get some rubber gloves like the kind used at a hospital or stick your fingers in the plastic bag the pen kit was in then use the towel. Cheapest skin-saving devise there is.[8D]

Congratulations on the success. I <s>glue</s> glued my fingers to stuff regularly. I now keep some remover in the drawer of my workbench. It saves that embarrassing conversation...."Honey, can you help me get my fingers off the....."

I usually use 5-6 coats. Keep practicing.

It wasn't me, but I recall sometime back a story about someone that was turning barefoot and glued his feet to the shop floor.

Yes! I saw it smoke and thought I should have seen flames. Funny thing is that the blister did not pop. It was a deep burn and the blister went down after about a day and a half.
