I sanded it to 600 then used the Beall system . It must be the pictures causing the grainy look . I'm still trying to photograph my pens correctly , my camera shoots very large and I have to shrink them a great deal to post them here and they become grainy when I do .

Nice work, Bill. You may want to try photographing the pen more horizontal to the lens. That way, your depth of field isn't giving you in focus and out of focus bits.

Paint Shop Pro isn't free but is a cheap and fantastic alternative to Photoshop. It has top notch resizing algorithms.
