I just started this hobby at the end of October, as I wanted to make Christmas gifts this year for my family and friends (I have 8 children, so I have had a lot to make!!). I had my wife and each of my children pick out what they wanted me to make for them - they all combed over catalogs and chose what they liked the best.
Here is my progress, I only have a few more to finish - I think I will be done in time for Christmas.
This one is a carpenter pencil for my neighbor. It was made with a 60+ year old Osage Orange fence post from the farm he grew up on.
Same wood, but a pen for my neighbor's wife.
For my wife - Nouveau Sceptre made with Bethlehem Olive wood, I wanted to make her a really nice fountain pen
For son #1, Anvil in Wenge, he works in a jail and wanted a pen for everyday use
For Daughter #2, Horse pen in Turquoise stabilized Maple, she is an animal handler at Sight & Sound theaters and is horse crazy:
For Son #2, Majestic Squire in African blackwood, he works a corporate job and wanted something with some style to use in meetings:
For Daughter #3 - mini sketch pencil in white Aquapearl, she is an artist and needed something with thicker lead:
For son #3, he wanted something durable to really use every day for college, Anvil in Bethlehem Olive Wood:
This one was for son #4, Tycoon Fountain in King Cocobolo, he really wanted a nice fountain pen:
For Daughter #4, she is horse crazy like her older sister and loves anything pink. Horse pen in Pink stabilized curly maple:
So, the pen for daughter #1 is the last one to make for immediate family. I have had a really rough go with the southwest laminated blank she picked. Had to order yet another one to get this thing finished. But it should be really nice with the southwest pen kit.
These were for my Dad, Mom, Sisters, and niece:
For my Dad: Executive Rollerball in blue stabilized curly maple:
For my Mom: Executive Rollerball in turquoise stabilized curly maple:
For my older sister: Magnetic vertex Rollerball in green stabilized curly maple:
For my younger sister: Purple diva charm twist in purple stabilized curly maple:
For my neice: Aurora Diva charm twist in pink stabilized curly maple:
And finally, my oldest son wanted me to make a pen for him to buy for his girlfriend, Pewter Faith Hope Love in Bethlehem Olive wood:
I need to work on my photography a little bit. Dust really shows up on that black background. Ugh!
Happy Turning, everybody!!!
Kind regards,
Chris Charles
