Mutagenic Genesis blank

The Mutagenic Genesis blank at Rockler looked intriguing to me. So I bought one to turn for a Celtic pen kit. When I started turning it, it looked ugly to me. It wasn't what I expected. But I finished turning and polishing it, hoping it would look better. It still looks ugly to me. What do you all think?

Mutagenic Genesis Pen Blank

Genesis is an Inlace Acrylester variant with enhanced color effects and a unique cellular pattern running crosswise through the blank.

Rockler's website states, "Genesis pen blanks are made of a cellular composite material similar to Inlace Acrylester. Thanks to the organic mesh used to structure the blank, however, they offer improved workability. The cellular mesh also creates an eye-catching ''honeycomb'' structure running the short way through the blank". I didn't find it any easier to turn than other acrylester blanks I've turned. It was still just as brittle. So much so that I turned it round with my homemade carbide chisel, and finished the shape with my good old 80 grit gouge. And I don't see any "honeycomb" in mine.

Can`t say I like it either . Might look better in other colours . The honeycomb is there , but pretty much lost in the green and black .

Very nice! i have made many. Even though it is not required, I apply several coats of CA to add some strength and preserve the shine.

I must say, I like it more than I thought I would. Not a lot, mind you, but still better than expected.
