Several years ago I built a pen blank stand to help organize multiple pen projects for larger orders. Little did I know that I would have to build two!

Construction is simple: 2x4's for the base and stand, and 3/16" dowels for the pegs. The pegs are angled slightly upward to prevent tubes from slipping off. A strip of masking tape on either side and in between the pegs keep my notes regarding each project organized and easily peeled off after completion.

These little gizmos have been invaluable over he years. Hope this is of use to the forum!

It struck me as funny, seeing your organizer pics posted here: just yesterday I was at Walmart getting a spool of thread, and I look over to see a "pen turner's organizer" made of wood, that is for sale there. (I believe the misinformed folks at W-mart think the little rack has something to do with sewing...go figure!):wink: Just for the record, the turner's organizer was priced at about $10. I did not buy it, but made one of those mental notes to self, that I may get one at some future time. Right now I have a very crude organizer...large finish nails partially pounded into a 2 X 4 It has too small of a capacity and eats up too much bench-top space. I expect I shall soon be inspired by your design (That means sorta copy it:wink:), or drop the $10 for the ready-made. Thanks for posting, it is a simple yet useful item.

I didn't know that Wal-Mart had such a rig; I never even checked. I went with this design in partly because of material on hand, but mostly that I wanted something that was free-standing, required a small footprint, and was easily movable from one location another. I have a tendency to spread out across multiple work areas, and the fewer footsteps between them, the better!

I've done something similar only I put the 2X4 horizontally (just laying flat on a bench) and I have different size dowels for each tube size: 7mm, 8mm, 10MM, 3/8 and I stick a piece of masking tape on the bottom of the dowel with the wood and pen it's destined for. Since I finish with Wipe-On Poly, the blanks are taken off the mandrel right after the first coat of poly is applied and they go on the dowel to have the other five coats of poly applied.
